Our History

Our founders began as volunteers with another local rescue organization, where they built and led a highly successful transport program. When that organization chose to discontinue its transport operations, it became clear that this critical service was still very urgently needed to save lives. Recognizing that gap and already having the expertise, they made the decision to continue the mission independently — and Road Trip Home was born.

In 2013, Road Trip Home became a stand-alone nonprofit organization with 501(c)(3) status. Today, RTH pulls both dogs and cats from shelters throughout Georgia, with strong ongoing support for Cobb, Sumter, Chattooga, and Habersham counties. We also collaborate closely with other local rescue organizations and are able to offer assistance to good Samaritan rescuers as well as owner surrenders. We are proud to partner with outstanding rescue organizations in the Northeast, working together to give homeless animals the opportunity for a safe journey and a second chance at life.
