Foster

Be a Hero, Foster, Save Lives.

Fostering is one of the fastest, most meaningful ways to save an animal’s life — and with Road Trip Home, it’s short-term, impactful, and you decide the type of animal you are comfortable with (big dogs, small dogs, puppies, cats, kittens).

Our foster homes give rescued dogs and cats a safe, comfortable place to rest, heal, and decompress before continuing their journey to a forever home. Most fosters are needed for just 2-4 weeks.

No long-term commitment. No pressure. Just lifesaving.

Why We Need Foster Homes

Road Trip Home partners with carefully vetted rescue organizations in the Northeast, allowing us to pull animals from Georgia’s high-kill shelters, care for their emotional and physical well-being, and send them to shelters in the Northeast who already have a plan — and often a family — waiting for them.

These strong partnerships have helped us save thousands of lives, but we can only do it with the help of temporary foster homes right here in Georgia.

How Fostering with Road Trip Home Is Different

This is not a traditional foster program.

  • Short-term only — usually days to a few weeks
  • Confirmed rescue placement out of state
  • Many animals are already pre-adopted
  • You’re the bridge, not the final stop

Animals in our program are carefully selected and already committed to a destination rescue. Our job — and yours — is to help them safely reach that next chapter.

What Foster Families Provide

Our foster families open their hearts and homes to provide:

  • Temporary shelter
  • Food and basic care
  • Love, stability, and kindness

We cover medical care and coordinate transport. You provide the safe place that makes everything else possible.

Worried About “Foster Failing”?

We get it — these animals are incredibly lovable, and foster parents care deeply for them. That love is exactly why fostering works.

Because our rescue partners commit to these animals before we pull them from the shelter — and begin planning immediately — foster animals are not available for local adoption through Road Trip Home.

Many already have families waiting. Our rescue partners rely on us to keep our promises, and that reliability is why we’re able to save so many lives.

Timing Matters

Our transports run on strict timelines. Plans must stay on track so we can continue rescuing more animals every week.

Foster commitments typically range from a few days up to one month, most commonly 2-4 weeks, depending on the animal’s needs and transport schedule.
